Community dynamics around Fe-oxidizing bacteria in iron-rich microbial mats: Adjustment to environmental variations

The IRONWOMAN project, entirely devoted to Fe-oxidizing bacteria (FeOB) present in iron-rich marine mats, aims to fill our gaps in understanding : 1) their abundance and activity as primary producers within these mats and their interactions with other microorganisms, 2) their metabolism, which is still poorly understood, and 3) the impact of environmental variations, particularly natural or anthropogenic gradients in iron and dissolved oxygen, on their development and the one of microbial mats.

The various research areas

This project brings together 6 partners in different disciplinary fields including microbiology, fluid and gas geochemistry, isotopy, bioalteration and instrumentation.
